Create-an-Ecosystem

Dear Parents,

It’s time for another project! We are learning about ecosystems
in science. Each student will receive a type of ecosystem to learn
about and create a diorama for. Each student is required to research
their ecosystem and then build a 3-D replica of what that ecosystem
looks like. The projects will be displayed at school.
There is no presentation with this project.

The ecosystems and the guides are due Monday, March 31st.
A rubric for how the projects will be graded is included in the guide.
All late projects will be deducted 10 points per day.

CREATE-A-ECOSYSTEM PROJET GUIDE

PART 1

Go to the library, get online, look up information in a dictionary
or encyclopedia, or use some sources to find information about
your type of ecosystem. Then answer the questions below.

1. Where in the world is your type of ecosystem located?
Is there more than one place? If so list several places.

PART 2

A diorama is a representation (or a model) of a scene. You will make
a diorama of a scene of your ecosystem. Create your diorama in some
type of a box. You can use the bottom of an old shoe box or game box
(or anything else you can find).
Then you can use things such as construction paper, pipe
cleaners, popsicle sticks, tooth picks, dirt, tissue paper, clay, or
anything else you can think of to make a scene of your habitat.
You need to include at least 2 types of plant life and 3 types
of animal life in your dioramas. Only include the plants and animals
that live in your ecosystems. (no dolphins in the desert or sharks i
n the freshwater) BE CREATIVE!!!!!

*if you need to see an example of a diorama, Ms. Kaufman has one
available to look at in the classroom.
